On June 4 2022, the Huron Hospice Board of Directors announced a lead donation to the $1.6 million Moments Matter … Even More Capital Campaign.
The board was honoured to accept a gift of $500,000 from David and Susan Bender and in recognition of this gift have renamed the Huron Hospice Residence. As of today, the residence will be called Huron Hospice Bender House.
With this generous gift the campaign is $100,000 from our $1.6 million goal. To help close the campaign contact Willy Van Klooster at 519-525-6856 or willy.vanklooster@huronhospice.ca
Capital Campaign to complete phase 2 renovations
Moments matter even more at the end of life. Here at Huron Hospice, our goal is to provide wonderful moments and a community of support for residents and their families free of cost. With some exceptions during COVID, Huron Hospice has often been full with a waitlist since opening in May 2018. With your help, Huron Hospice will be increasing the capacity of the residence so we can provide high-quality care to even more Huron county residents in their end-of-life journey.
Campaign Goals
The Moments Matter…Even More, campaign will allow Huron Hospice to create four new bedrooms at Bender House and care for even more residents and families annually. This is an increase from the current 60 families. The campaign will cover:
Construction of four bedrooms with ensuites and private patios.
Converting two temporary bedrooms into a quiet space and The Bayfield Children’s Room.
Construction of proper nursing and communications offices.
Construction of accessible walking paths.
Construction of covered entry and expanded driveway.
Renovation and restructuring of utility and HVAC space.
over the coming years
When creating our capital campaign, we considered what the next 15 years would look like for the residents of Huron County. Over the coming years, the growth in the senior population in Huron County will outpace the growth of the total population. This will lead to more deaths, which will require more than the four beds Huron Hospice currently offers. Often, the hospice has been at capacity and has an average waitlist of 12 people. Our goal is to minimize the waitlist and give as many individuals and their families moments that matter during their end-of-life journey.
